10 MONTHS OF WORK OF THE UKRAINIAN STATE FILM AGENCY. KEY POINTS

Since the beginning of the year, 13 Ukrainian films have been created with the support of the Ukrainian State Film Agency, 111 projects are in production, and 10 films are in the filming period. These data are published in the report of the Ukrainian State Film Agency for the period from January 1st to October 16th, 2023.

According to the document, 13 films were produced in the first 10 months of this year, including:

  • one full-length animated film;
  • one short animated film;
  • nine full-length fiction films;
  • one short film;
  • one non-fiction film.

According to the report, as of October 16th, 2023, the State Register of Film Producers, Distributors, and Demonstrators includes 23 film production entities and 15 film distribution entities. During this period, 111 film production contracts were signed, and 10 projects are at various stages of filming.

In addition, the Ukrainian State Film Agency reported income of UAH 31,410,902 received by the special fund from the sale of film rights.

«Ukrainian films created with the support of the Ukraine State Film Agency gathered UAH 282 607 419 and 2 123 940 viewers in almost 10 months of 2023» the Agency's report says. The top films at the box office include «Mavka: The Forest Song». The animated film gathered UAH 155 696 733 at the box office. During its release, 1 242 435 viewers watched it. The movie «Dovbush» gathered UAH 61 966 435 and 438 696 viewers. The «Luxembourg, Luxembourg» box office amounted to UAH 34 343 584, and 229 993 viewers watched the film.

Films created with the support of the Ukrainian State Film Agency also participated in prestigious A-class film festivals and received recognition. For example, Simon Lereng Wilmont's documentary film «A House Made of Splinters» was nominated for an «Oscar» Award in the category of «Best Documentary Full-length Film», and several other films were screened at festivals such as the Berlin International Film Festival, Cannes International Film Festival, Locarno International Film Festival, Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, Venice International Film Festival, and Warsaw International Film Festival.

Summing up the results of its work from January 1st to October 16th, 2023, the Ukrainian State Film Agency emphasizes that it supports film producers to save the previous achievements of the industry, save workplaces, and protect financial investments in projects. The agency makes every effort to support the stable development of Ukrainian cinema by organizing project screenings in cinemas, on television, and on digital platforms. It also takes an active part in film festivals both in Ukraine and abroad, developing cooperation and co-production with the international film community.
