UKRAINIAN FILM «LA PALISIADA» DIRECTED BY PHILIP SOTNYCHENKO NOMINATED FOR THE EUROPEAN FILM AWARDS IN THE CATEGORY «DISCOVERY OF THE YEAR – PRIX FIPRESCI»
The Ukrainian film «La Palisiada» directed by Philip Sotnychenko has been nominated for the European Film Awards in the category «Discovery of the Year - FIPRESCI Prix».
The European Film Academy has announced the nominees for this year's European Discovery - Prix FIPRESCI.
The Ukrainian ironic detective story created with the support of the Ukrainian State Film Agency – «La Palisiada» is among the 6 films on the list.
«La Palisiada» became one of the few Ukrainian films to be nominated for the European Film Awards in the category European Discovery - Prix FIPRESCI.
The plot: Ukraine, 1996. 5 months before the moratorium on capital punishment, two old friends, a police detective, and a forensic psychiatrist, investigate the murder of their colleague. Once upon a time, they were both in love with the victim's widow. Immersed in a confusing case and long-forgotten memories, they create a future for their children to live in, inheriting their parents' unrealized aspirations.
The winners will be announced on December 9th at the 36th European Film Awards in Berlin.
The world premiere «La Palisiada» took place in the main competition at the 52nd International Film Festival Rotterdam. There, the film received an award from the International Federation of the Film Press (FIPRESCI) and also won the «Best Full-length Film» nomination at the 28th Vilnius International Film Festival «Kino Pavasaris» (Lithuania).
«La Palisiada» was named the best full-length feature film at the «Kinokolo» National Film Critics Award and the best film at the Ukraina Festiwal Filmowy (Poland).
Philip Sotnychenko won the «Sarajevo Heart» for the best director’s work at the Sarajevo International Film Festival in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Volodymyr Usyk won the award for cinematography at the Ukraina Festiwal Filmowy in Warsaw.
